Accessibility Statement

The University of Kent and the University of Essex is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This accessibility statement applies to the website: www.mothersafteradoption.com .

COMPLIANCE STATUS

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

The non-compliances in our knowledge are listed below.

§ The website fails paragraph 1.4 of WCAG 2.2, because it does not provide

a. full text version of the videos attached

b. you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text

c. you cannot change the colour of the background or text on the webpage

  • In      certain areas the colour contrast is insufficient. This can present a      problem for users with low-vision or colour-blindness. This fails WCAG 2.2      success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast minimum).
  • some      text or videos may include specific definitions of words or phrases which      can be used in an unusual way, such as idioms and jargon. This fails the WCAG      2.2 criteria 3.1.3 by making the contents harder to understand for some      viewers.
  • live      video streams do not have captions. This fails WCAG 2.2 criterion 1.2.4 by      making it inaccessible for visually impaired viewers.
  • some      of our pre-recorded videos do not have captions. This fails WCAG 2.1      success criterion 1.2.2 (captions (pre-recorded)) which makes it      inaccessible to visually impaired viewers.
  • some      of our online forms can be difficult to navigate using just a keyboard. This      makes it difficult for some users to navigate our website. This fails WCAG      2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (Keyboard).
  • not all      our images have alternative text added to them so people using a screen      reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success      criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
  • some      of our webpages have added local link (anchor links) but the destination      does not exist yet. This makes it confusing for assisted technologies to      navigate the site. This fails WCAG 2.1 success      criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).

§ some of our images should be marked as decorative This makes it confusing for screen readers to know whether the image is of value to the content on not. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

REASONS FOR NON-COMPLIANCE:

Text and the videos on the pages have been made as accessible as possible in the given technical possibilities.

Interviews and blogs by third parties may include jargon and difficult language which cannot be changed as it may change the whole meaning of their message which defeats the purpose of the interview.

STATEMENT OF PARTIAL CONFORMANCE-THIRD PARTY CONTENT

This page does not conform but would conform to WCAG 2.2 at level AA when parts from uncontrolled sources are removed. The uncontrolled sources include third-party and visitor comments on the blogs, videos and interviews.
